On March 24th, President Evans announced to the university the selection of Dr. Eva Fernández as UIW’s new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Fernández will oversee the division of Academic Affairs, all academic programs, faculty affairs, research and student success. She will step into this new role on June 1 from Dr. Dimitri Tamalis, who will return to his role as Vice Provost after serving as Interim Provost after the passing of Dr. Farrell Webb.
During her visit to UIW earlier this month, she met with President Evans and his Executive Committee, the Dean’s Council, members of the faculty, and academic leadership. Dr. Fernández shared with President Evans that she was most drawn to UIW for the university’s commitment to providing education that prepares students to be concerned and enlightened citizens of a global community. She further expressed how excited she is to begin collaborating with our faculty, staff and students. Dr Fernández will aid UIW in identifying opportunities to build upon our academic strengths.
Dr. Fernández has led a twenty-four-year-long, distinguished career in higher education as a faculty member and administrator. She comes to Texas from New York, where she served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for Mercy University. Prior to this role, she held leadership and teaching positions at multiple institutions in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. She has continuously led efforts to improve student success, support faculty, aid in curriculum development, and advance academic momentum. UIW is beyond grateful to welcome Dr. Fernández into the nest.
