The Political Science department will be hosting their annual Honors convocation. The event will be to honor our students’ academic achievements as well as honor Mr. Chang Sup Lee for being our international visiting scholar for over 2 years.
Mr. Chang Sup Lee, the former president of Korea Times newspaper in Seoul, South Korea was recognized for his time here at UIW. He visited and gave guest lectures under international relations, human rights, Asian politics, Korean history, and journalism. As-well as giving public lectures to the UIW community on developing issues in Korean and international politics. He and his wife are also well known for welcoming student activities on campus by supporting a variety of international programs and Pi Sigma Alpha (the political science honor society). Activities ranged from an international food festival to individual mentoring for students while studying abroad.
Mr. Lee was complimented on his expertise in journalism, media coverage, Asian politics, and US Korean relations being labeled as having unduplicated insights and experience to share. Dr. Nath, chair of the History Dept., and Dr. Dittloff, Political Science, both had some words to share about Mr. Lee’s work ethic quoting “He regaled the students with personal anecdotes and interesting stories, which made the lectures lively and highly engaging. His presentations helped bring the material to life and greatly enhanced the student experience.” and “his presentation clarified a complicated international event for all who attended. Having such a well-informed and distinguished colleague on call to provide interpretations of world events for the students of UIW was indeed a blessing.” It’s clear Mr. Lee left his mark and will be missed here in the community of UIW.
