The Student Government Election has ended. Tyler Simmons is the new Student Government President and Monse Elizondo is the New Student Vice President.
Post-election, Simmons felt both grateful and excited for the opportunity he was given.
He states, “First and foremost, I’m deeply grateful to the student body for trusting me with this responsibility. What excites me most about becoming SGA President is the opportunity to bring students closer to the heart of decision-making at UIW. Monse and I ran on the promise of taking UIW to new heights, and that is exactly what we plan to do. We want to build a stronger, more connected campus—one where student organizations have the resources they need to thrive, where students know about the opportunities available to them, and where every Cardinal feels seen and heard. Most importantly, this is just the beginning. We want to make sure every student feels they have a role in shaping our university’s future. Together, we will move UIW forward.”
Monse added, “I am incredibly honored to step into the role of SGA Vice President, and I want to thank every student who believed in our vision. This opportunity is not about leadership. It is about listening, learning, and making sure student voices are part of every conversation that shapes life at UIW. Serving alongside Tyler, we are ready to put in the work to make a real, lasting change. Our goal is to make sure every student feels a sense of belonging and purpose here. UIW has incredible potential and with your ideas and energy, we will be taking UIW to new heights.”
This race was a close one but is one that will go down in SGA history as being one of the most voted elections at UIW. Having 531 votes to end the election.
