Are you looking for a chill place to study? Are you looking to support a coffee shop that is not Starbucks? Here are three local coffee shops that are less than a ten-minute drive from campus!
Merit Coffee

Located in the Villita Del Sol Shopping Center on Broadway Street, Mert Coffee Co. is a favorite coffee spot among many UIW students. Merit Coffee Co. harbors a chill atmosphere, and it’s a great place to study with friends! Their menu is full of fun and creative drinks where you can order coffee, matcha, tea, and more! They also serve delicious pastries and tacos until 11:00 AM. Merit Coffee Co. is open 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM during the week. They are open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays, and 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sundays.
Middle of Nowhere Cafe & Bar

Nowhere Bookshop is one of Broadway Street’s most unique book shops! Inside the bookstore, Middle of Nowhere Cafe & Bar is a great spot to relax or study. Their menu is ever-changing, but they always have coffee, tea, kombucha, lemonades, wine, and beer. They also have small bites to eat like different pastries and sandwiches. Their pastries are from Miss Chickpea’s Bakeshop and are available Wednesday through sellout on Saturday. Middle of Nowhere Cafe & Bar even has a Happy Hour from Monday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM where you can enjoy $2 off beer, wine by the glass, and kombucha. They are open 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 6:00 PM on Sundays.
CommonWealth Coffee House

Did you know that you can get farm fresh eggs in your tacos right across the street from campus? CommonWealth Coffee House is an indoor and outdoor cafe with delicious coffee, tea, hot chocolate, French-inspired pastries, tacos, salads and more. Their tacos are served with farm fresh eggs from their chickens that live right outside! CommonWealth Coffee House is a favorite among UIW students because you can walk there from campus, and they offer a discount for all UIW staff and students with an ID. Their kitchen is open until 3:00 PM daily, and they are open 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays. On weekends, they are open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Choosing to spend your time studying at a local coffee shop instead of Starbucks is a great way to support local businesses! These are just a few of many of the amazing cafes and coffee shops around San Antonio.
