UIW Receives Major Donation for Mental Health Resources

By Katherine Dunnagan

UIW just received a $10,000 donation from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and LG Electronics USA to support mental health resources on campus. LG Electronics USA, an Official NCAA Corporate Partner, is committed to supporting student mental health services by partnering with NAMI. They are providing these donations to the host schools of the 2025 NCAA Final Four Men’s and Women’s Tournaments.

In 2024, LG created the LG Life’s Good Coaches Award, which recognized NCAA coaches who foster environments where student-athletes’ mental health can be supported and thrive. Additionally, LG started a podcast series called Transparent Conversations in 2022 to promote conversations about mental health. Specifically, the podcast aims at discussions about mental health challenges that student-athletes face and what practical coping tools they can use on and off the court. Now LG has partnered with NAMI to further their support for student well-being and mental health.

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Dan Gillison Jr., CEO of NAMI stated, “As a former college athlete, I know how powerful it is to have a community that’s got your back—on and off the court. That’s why I’m so grateful for LG’s continued partnership and their deep commitment to student mental health. With their support, we’re helping launch NAMI On Campus clubs in tournament host cities—creating space for students and student athletes to connect, learn, and lean on one another. Moments like the Final Four remind us that mental health is a team effort—and with LG on our team, we’re building something that lasts far beyond the game.” UIW is incredibly grateful for the support from NAMI and LG.

The Director of Behavioral Health Services at UIW, Dr. Kevin Milligan, emphasized “We’re so grateful for LG’s commitment to mental health. This will help us create a more supportive campus community and bring greater awareness to mental health and the resources available to students.”

The generous donation from NAMI and LG will help support resources for students like Behavioral Health Services here on campus.
