The first UIW Theatre show of the semester, Betrayal, opened on October 4. The play tells the story of a married English couple and their struggle with infidelity and heartbreak.
Betrayal is playing in the UIW Cheever Theatre and features a proscenium-style set up, with seats on all four sides of the room. Guests can choose their own seating on any side and row. In addition to the design, the dialogue includes many pauses for the characters to silently convey their feelings, which is part of Harold Pinter’s playwriting signature.
The play includes four characters: Emma, Jerry, Robert, and Waiter. Two of the cast members are freshmen theatre majors and made their college theatre debut in this show. Unlike most plays that show scenes in chronological order, Betrayal takes audience members back in time. The show is set in the current day and moves backward by increments of years and weeks to help audience members step into the past and understand the context of the story.
The remaining show dates are October 10,11, and 12. Tickets are free for UIW students, faculty, and staff and can be purchased online or by calling the box office. Please join us as we support the theatre program and the incredible student actors!
