“The Norwegians” is a contemporary dark comedy, and its absurd storyline and heartfelt interactions will give the season a light start.
The department closed its Spring 2026 season with an intense Greek tragedy, “Trojan Women/Hecuba.” So “The Norwegians” will kickstart the fall with a laugh.
“The Norwegians” is centered around two women, Olive and Betty, and their newly hired “Norwegian hitmen.” The women have hired these men to “take out” their ex-boyfriends, but in a dramatic turn of events, this tale of deception and trickery becomes an unlikely love story.
The production will run for two weekends, Oct. 3-5 and Oct. 8-10, with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
With the start of the new semester, everyone is getting used to each other and working to get into the daily routine of rehearsals and meetings. However, with the challenges come a lot of new and exciting interactions.
“There are so many fresh new faces in the department,” stage manager Cierra Collins said. “We have a guest director, and the majority of the cast is filled with freshmen, and our stage management team is also fairly new to this.”
Live theatre requires a certain level of trust in yourself and in your peers to put on an immersive and safe production. While some may see these things as hindrances, the cast and crew of “The Norwegians” see them as opportunities to grow and have a good laugh.
“We are all collaborating and learning together about each other and the processes we do here,” Collins said. “All while enjoying our time with ‘The Norwegians,’ because the show is really funny and we’re all having a blast!”
