Celebrate Love at the UIW Couples Mass

Each year, the University of the Incarnate Word invites its alumna back to campus to celebrate something truly special — the love stories that began within its walls.

Known as the Cardinal Couples Mass, this annual event brings together past students who found forever partners at UIW for a joyful celebration of marriage, commitment, and faith.

Here’s everything you need to know about this mass.

The mass is a cherished tradition hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations in partnership with Mission and Ministry, and normally takes place inside Our Lady’s Chapel on campus the week of Valentine’s Day.

This Sunday, it will continue this tradition of celebrating loving couples within the UIW community.

More than just a liturgical service, the Couples Mass is a celebration for alumni and their partners. Whether newly engaged, recently married, or decades into their journey together, this mass reconnects them to the place their relationship began and along with the wider UIW community to praying over their union.

“A lot of our alumni have met here on campus,” Associate Director of Alumni Relations Susan Lavenant said. “We bring them back to campus for a blessing of their marriage or their relationship.”

She encourages couples to sit in the front of the chapel for this special occasion.

“They all get the special blessing, and then we also have a professional photographer that gets to take their photo of them, and then we share the photo with the alumni,” Lavenant said.

The Cardinal Couple’s Mass will take place inside Our Lady’s Chapel on Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.
