This Saturday, the lights of the Alamodome will shine a little brighter as the University of the Incarnate Word gears up to face crosstown rival the University of Texas at San Antonio in what promises to be a thrilling San Antonio showdown.

This game isn’t just another date on the calendar, it’s a citywide battle for bragging rights, respect, and hometown pride. Two San Antonio teams. One iconic stadium. And a whole lot of energy.

The Cardinals currently sit at 1–1 following a strong bounce-back win over Eastern Washington, where UIW posted a 31–21 victory at home. Wide receiver Jameson Garcia lit up the field with a 75-yard touchdown that helped fuel the win and earned him Player of the Game honors. The offense found its rhythm, the defense showed grit, and the team’s energy matched the crowd’s from start to finish. It was the kind of win that sets the tone for something bigger.

Now, all eyes turn toward the highly anticipated rivalry matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners. While the Alamodome may be UTSA’s usual home field, UIW fans know how to show up, and this Saturday is the time to do just that. This is more than a game. It’s a moment to represent not just our team, but our school, our pride, and our belief in what Cardinal football is all about.

Senior linebacker Declan Williams, one of the team’s key defensive leaders, is fired up for the big matchup. “It means a lot to me and the team. It’s very exciting to have the city of San Antonio to come out and support two of their football programs. We are very excited for another opportunity to show how talented we are against a great matchup.”

With a city rivalry brewing and bragging rights on the line, this game means more than just another check on the schedule. It’s about showing up for the red and black, filling the stands, and reminding San Antonio that UIW is here to compete and ready to win.

Kickoff is set for 2:30PM this Saturday, September 13th at the Alamodome. Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster, and for those who can’t make it in person, the game will be streamed live on ESPN+, so you won’t miss a moment.

So grab your Cardinal gear, round up your friends, and get ready to bring the noise. Let’s pack the Dome, cheer loud, and show everyone what Cardinal pride looks like.

Will the 210 be painted red or blue after Sunday’s matchup? We’re about to find out! Go Cards!
