Through student-led initiatives, advocacy, and participation in university affairs, the SGA is more than just a governing body, they are the voice of the student body. They work to ensure that every student’s voice is heard, valued, and respected.
SGA serves as the official representative of the student body, creating communication between students, faculty, and administration. Whether it’s helping to organize large-scale campus events or providing input on university policies, the SGA offers a platform for students to become active contributors to the UIW community.
SGA hosts events all over campus frequently. “At our events, all are welcome! I believe in making our events enjoyable and giving the students an opportunity to participate in something.”, said SGA Director of Public Relations, Terri Servin.

In March, SGA held their annual elections and at the beginning of this month, votes were counted, and decisions were made. SGA’s new president for the 2025-2026 school year is Tyler Simmons.
Simmons is a biology major looking to pursue a career in becoming a physician with goals that not only focus on patient care, but also advocacy for the communities he will serve. Simmons
is also the president of Future Healthcare Heroes. Due to his role in the healthcare community at UIW, the things he has experienced “sparked my desire to scale efforts beyond healthcare and serve the entire student body at UIW.”, said Simmons.
As the school year comes to an end, Simmons will lead his SGA crew to delivering a greater impact to the students, expand mental health resources and awareness, and work closely with Career Services to help the students for their future. “Everything we will do will be about making UIW a place where students are not just heard but truly supported in their ambitions.”
Whether you’re interested in simply finding your place in the campus community or just wanting to learn more, the Student Government Association welcomes your voice.
