A new annual tradition was established in honor of Limitless Unity Week, a week dedicated to celebrating individuals with physical and visual impairments.

The Student Government Association (SGA) created the event to allow students and members of the UIW community an opportunity to experience being in a wheelchair. The first annual event featured games, races, and prizes, but most importantly, it brought a lot of smiles to everyone.

Morgan Huizar, a senator of special interest in the Student Government Association (SGA), organized and created the event. He expressed his thoughts on the community turnout by saying, “It means the world to me. I didn’t think we would have this many people out here today. I’m grateful for the support of the student government, and this is the best turnout I could have asked for.”

At the event, attendees visited a booth where they could spin a wheel and answer questions for a chance to win prizes. One question asked was, “Where are the disability services located on campus?” Those who answered correctly could choose from a variety of prizes. If someone was unsure of the answer, members of the SGA were there to provide guidance and teach them.

Teofilo Reyes Jr., the Assistant Director for Leadership and Global Engagement, attended the event and stated, “We have people from the Psychology department, Wellness, SGA, and the Future Healthcare Heroes of UIW. Many people coming together just to bring more awareness of disabilities, so that we can inspire change on campus as well as in the city.”

If you want to learn more about on-campus accommodations, you can visit disability services online or in their office located in the AD building.
