The University of the Incarnate Word is letting go of one of the most successful women’s coaches since turning Division I in 2013-14.
Head coach Jeff Dow had had an incredible season moving into his sixth year of coaching at UIW. The Cardinals went 18-13 this season and now have three consecutive winning seasons, all thanks to Coach Dow. Also, he led his team to win a Southland title, having the women’s basketball team be the first at UIW to win.
The school gave a statement to the San Antonio Express News saying, “The University thanks Jeffrey Dow for his time and service and wishes him well in his future endeavors.” Coach Dow provided a written statement about the situation to the Express News. “The explanation I was given was that they were exercising their right to non-renew my contract and that they wanted to go a different direction,” Dow said. “I’m grateful for my time at UIW, and I appreciate the opportunity to have successfully completed my contract while leaving the program significantly better than I found it. The coaching profession is one where change is common, and even during times of success, organizations always reserve the right to go in another direction. I respect that reality and remain proud of what we accomplished as a staff.”
