At approximately noon on Jan. 28, 2025, students at the University of the Incarnate Word received notice from the Office of Financial Assistance that there is a national federal aid pause. This notice has left students, including myself, worried about what is to come of their education: especially students who rely on FAFSA to pay for their tuition.

On Monday night, the Trump Administration set forth a series of bills that would affect students everywhere. By 5 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 28, all federal assistance has been halted and colleges and universities are unsure about how long this will be in place for.

As for UIW, in their mass email they stated that this will only affect pending funds and not money that has already been disbursed. Once the financial aid office hears any updates from the Department of Education or the Federal Office of Management and Budget, they will inform students.

This is an ongoing story, as we all wait for answers from Trump’s Administration.
